📸 AP Art 2‑D Design: Optical Illusion Project 🪞

Our AP Art 2‑D Design students took on one of their most challenging — and most creative — projects this week. Using only the panoramic function on their cameras, they were tasked with creating real‑time optical illusions with no editing tools allowed.

After learning the basics and experimenting with in‑camera techniques, Mr. Green encouraged students to push their imagination, play with perspective, and think beyond the frame. The results speak for themselves — clever, thoughtful, and incredibly fun.

Outstanding work, Bears. Your creativity continues to shine.

A student stands in a restroom pointing toward a mirror that reflects them sitting on a sink, creating a visual illusion of two different positions of the same person within the same space.
A student kneels in a school hallway with a serious expression, while a mirror beside them reflects a smiling version of the same student holding a baby doll, creating a contrast between the real pose and the reflection.
Three students take a mirror selfie in a classroom; the student in the center holds the phone while the two on either side, dressed alike, appear as twins, with classroom desks and decorated ceiling tiles in the background.
A student sits cross‑legged in a hallway near a corner mirror, which reflects their image in a way that has an opposite expression.
A student stands at a restroom sink looking serious, while the mirror reflection shows the same student animatedly pointing and appearing expressive, creating a contrast between real and reflected emotions.
A student kneels on grass outdoors, pointing at a small mirror on the ground that reflects the sky and part of their hand, with a modern building visible in the background.
A student with dreadlocks looks into a small mirror mounted above a fire hose cabinet in a hallway; the mirror reflection shows another person standing close behind them, creating an illusion of two people interacting.
Inside a gymnasium, a person holds a mirror that reflects another individual holding a basketball, creating the illusion that the reflected person is present in the gym even though they are not physically in the frame.
In a classroom, a student holds a small mirror that reflects the face of another person seated at a desk with a laptop and papers, creating a playful optical illusion using the mirror’s angle and a different expression.
A mirror placed on a classroom desk reflects a hand holding a pack of gum and reversed wall text, while a laptop and blue classroom chairs sit around it, creating a reflection‑based illusion.
✈️ Bears Tour the Air! 🐻

Our students had the incredible opportunity to tour Little Rock Air Force Base, where they explored aircraft, met Airmen, and learned firsthand about careers in aviation, engineering, and military service.

We’re grateful to LRAFB for opening its doors and inspiring our future leaders.

Two military presenters stand at the front of a classroom, one speaking at a podium while the other drinks from a metal container; military gear and equipment are displayed on the table in front of them as students listen.
A room full of military personnel in camouflage uniforms sit in rows of blue chairs during a briefing or training session, with a few individuals standing along the back wall.

🎓 AVID Wednesday Spotlight: WICOR in Action! ✏️📚

The foundation of AVID techniques is the WICOR framework — Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading — and it was on full display at Sylvan Hills High School.

In Mrs. Bridges’ history class, students explored industrialization and its impact on countries worldwide. After reading about the topic in class, they dug deeper through research, organized their findings into visual models, collaborated on large‑scale posters, and used inquiry to understand how global events shaped the modern world.

👕 Don’t forget to wear your college or career shirt tomorrow and celebrate the strategies that help our scholars think critically and dream big.

It’s National School Breakfast Week, and you don't have to try green eggs and ham like Mrs. Neal's class. 🍳 Breakfast is FREE for every single student in PCSSD starting this school year!

According to the School Nutrition Association, students who eat breakfast are more likely to:
📈 Reach higher achievement levels in reading and math
📝 Score higher on standardized tests
🎯 Have better concentration and memory
🏃‍♂️ Maintain a healthy weight and stay alert

We are proud to fuel our students' minds and bodies! Way to go, Mrs. Neal and Sherwood Elementary, for this fun memory. #PCSSDProud #ServeAll #NationalSchoolBreakfastWeek #ReadAcrossAmerica

PCSSD is aware of the concerns being raised by Lifetouch. PCSSD had an agreement in place prior to all of this new information being released, and the process for providing all school photos had already begun. PCSSD is currently reviewing for potential changes with the agreement, and the district will be considering other options for the next school year.

🎨🎶 Wow — check out this creativity!

Our AP Art 2-D Design students took on an awesome project by creating a fictional band or artist, developing an original album title, selecting a music genre, and then photographing their own album cover design. 📸

The results? Bold, imaginative, and incredibly well-executed! 👏 Take a look at these amazing designs! 💙🐻
