The Sylvan Hills High School Debate Team is off to a great season start! They recently completed at the Conway Regional Tournament; We had three students advance to finals: Nash Nelson, Sofia Martinez, and Ashton Parker. Sofia Martinez placed 6th and qualified for State.

Last week, our Bears joined the fight to end polio in recognition of World Polio Day! 🌎💜
Polio is a contagious virus that can cause paralysis, but it is preventable through vaccination. 💉
💜 Why purple pinkies? During polio vaccination campaigns, children’s pinkies are marked with purple ink to show they’ve received the vaccine. Painting our pinkies purple helps raise awareness and support the global effort to End Polio Now!
We’re proud of our Interact Club Bears for spreading awareness and showing that even a little purple can make a BIG difference! 🐻💜

🎶 Pulaski County Special School District student vocalists earned recognition at the Arkansas Choral Directors Association (ArkCDA) Region 2 Senior High All-Region Choir auditions. 🎶
🎤 A total of 36 PCSSD students earned All-Region placements, with four additional students named alternates. Of those selected, 22 students are eligible to audition for the All-State choir. 👏

Our Sports Medicine students are putting their knowledge into practice in the Injury Assessment course! 🩺💪
Students are learning and practicing special tests used to assess rotator cuff injuries. Through hands-on practice, they are developing skills in proper hand placement, testing techniques, and evaluating shoulder injuries.
They’re also learning how to interpret patient symptoms and test results to help identify which muscles may be involved and determine whether a specific injury may be present.
We love seeing our Bears build real-world skills and prepare for future careers in sports medicine and healthcare! 🩻👏

Over a dozen students were sworn in on October 7 to participate in Teen Court, a program that gives students meaningful roles in a restorative approach to school discipline.
Students serving in Teen Court take on roles including judges, jurors and advocates. In PCSSD’s peer-jury model, students present cases, question respondents, deliberate and determine appropriate sanctions while an adult judge presides. Sanctions may include community service, writing or reflection assignments, and workshops or classes focused on conflict resolution, decision-making and life skills.

Mrs. Stewart recently took students from Mu Alpha Theta, Beta Club, and National Honor Society to the Arkansas Food Bank, where they spent the day packing meals for families across Arkansas.
Together, our students packed an incredible 11,900+ meals in just one day! 🙌📦
We are so proud of our students for giving their time, energy, and hearts to serve others. What an amazing example of Bear pride and community service!
