Big, Big shout out to the Sylvan Hills track team for their accomplishments last night. The boys finished second and the girls finished fourth.

The biggest accomplishment of the the night was a possible school record in the discus throw. Kaedon Curtis had an amazing throw of 140 feet 1 inch. Great job, Kaedon.

First place finishers were Kenan "Air" Morris, Deryeus Fowlkes,and Tyler Blakely.

Top Bear performers were Nigel Casey, Kortez Anthony, Isaiah Howell, Mesiah Vales, Brayden Wallace, Brian Dixson, Daylon Brooks, Antonio Reed, Jaci Rainey, Paris Wilburd, Matti Kohler, Kylee Metcalf, Rakyia Johnson, Ski Walker, Kortney Hood, and Sanaiya Jones. Great Job Bears.

Sylvan Hills High School students took to the runway this week as part of Mrs. Albert's FACS fashion unit. For the “Rip the Runway” showcase, students styled outfits that demonstrated elements and principles of design — including line, form, texture, balance, rhythm, and emphasis.

As each student walked the runway, classmates identified the design concepts on display, and the lesson wrapped up with a live judging session and a “best outfit” award. The runway was a great reminder of how much talent and imagination these students bring to the classroom. #PCSSDproud #GoBears

Sylvan Hills High School seniors spent the morning putting their career skills into action at the Academy Advantage Senior Hiring Event, where they met with dozens of Central Arkansas employers, practiced real interview techniques, and explored pathways into high‑demand careers.

Students rotated through multiple interviews, asked thoughtful questions, and represented SHHS with professionalism and confidence. From healthcare and public service to manufacturing, business, and technology, Bears had the opportunity to connect directly with companies seeking career‑ready graduates.

🎓🐻 Our AVID students have been on the move this spring!

Sophomores toured Henderson State University and Ouachita Baptist University to explore college life firsthand. Juniors and seniors attended the HBCU College Fair at West Central Community Center, connecting with representatives from colleges across the country. Seniors also enjoyed a trip to watch the Arkansas Razorbacks take on Texas A&M Aggies — a fun way to experience college spirit in action! 🏈

Getting involved in college and career experiences is a key pillar of AVID, and our students are doing an amazing job taking advantage of every opportunity. Way to stay future-focused, Bears! 💙

The results are in, and the Sylvan Hills High School Choirs SHINED at the Region 2 Choral Assessments!

⭐ A cappella Choir & A cappella Treble: Received straight Superior (I) ratings in both performance and sight-reading.
⭐ VOX Chorale: Earned straight Superior (I) ratings across all categories.
⭐ Treble Choir: Secured Excellent (II) ratings for their performance and sight-reading.
⭐ Small Ensembles: Congratulations to Beauty Shop and our Trio for their Division I ratings!
⭐ Soloists: Our soloists brought home three First Division ratings and one Second Division rating.

📸 AP Art 2‑D Design: Optical Illusion Project 🪞

Our AP Art 2‑D Design students took on one of their most challenging — and most creative — projects this week. Using only the panoramic function on their cameras, they were tasked with creating real‑time optical illusions with no editing tools allowed.

After learning the basics and experimenting with in‑camera techniques, Mr. Green encouraged students to push their imagination, play with perspective, and think beyond the frame. The results speak for themselves — clever, thoughtful, and incredibly fun.

🎓 AVID Wednesday Spotlight: WICOR in Action! ✏️📚

The foundation of AVID techniques is the WICOR framework — Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading — and it was on full display at Sylvan Hills High School.

In Mrs. Bridges’ history class, students explored industrialization and its impact on countries worldwide. After reading about the topic in class, they dug deeper through research, organized their findings into visual models, collaborated on large‑scale posters, and used inquiry to understand how global events shaped the modern world.
