Telcoe Federal Credit Union, in partnership with Pulaski County Special School District, will host three Financial Reality Fairs at Sylvan Hills, Maumelle, and Joe T. Robinson High schools.
The reality fairs provide students with hands-on experience at making real-life financial decisions, equipping them with essential money management skills as they prepare for adulthood.
The schedule is as follows:
Feb. 3 from 9 a.m. to noon–Sylvan Hills High Reality Fair sponsored in the Sylvan Hills High Arena
Feb. 20 from 9 a.m. to noon–Maumelle High Reality Fair in the Maumelle High Auxiliary Gym.
March 3 from 9 a.m. to noon–Robinson High Reality Fair sponsored will be held in the Joe T. Robinson Middle School Gym due to construction on the RHS campus.
A Reality Fair was held at Mills University Studies High School in January.
During the fair, students receive an entry-level salary for a career of interest then navigate through a series of interactive booths. Booths will feature realistic pricing options, allowing students to determine how much they were willing to allocate for each expense, reinforcing the importance of budgeting and financial planning.
Participants will face decisions such as choosing between renting an apartment or buying a home, selecting a vehicle, and estimating costs for utilities and insurance. They will also explore options for entertainment, discretionary spending, and investments, encouraging them to think critically about their financial priorities.
Each booth will be staffed by volunteers from various businesses throughout central Arkansas.
The Financial Reality Fair is part of Telcoe Federal Credit Union’s ongoing commitment to promoting financial education and preparing young individuals for financial independence.
